Inter School Essay Competition

An inter school essay competition entitled “My Responsibility towards coastal environment” was organized at Nepal Tourism Board on 31 August 2010. The competition is one of the major events of the “SAARC Haveeru – Coastal festival in the mountains”, jointly organized by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) and SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre (SCZMC), Maldives.

The competition involved twenty-eight students from different schools around the valley, one student from each school. The main objective of the hour-long competition was to evaluate their awareness level regarding marine life and to determine how responsible they are towards their environment and actions.

The Chief Guest for the program was Mr. Bhairav Risal, senior Journalist-NEFEJ. Similarly, The Chairperson for the program was Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Gurung, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Irrigation. The special guest for the program was Mr. Pankaj K.C, Program Director, Clean Energy Nepal.

The judges for the competition included Mr. Pabitra Dahal, Environmentalist and teacher, GoldenGate International college, Battisputali, also the coordinator of “Hamro Sampada” monthly magazine, Mr. Sundar Layalu, International Climate champion 2009 organized by British Council, Nepal and Ms. Ritu Shrestha EPH and English Language teacher, Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute, Balaju.

The winners from the competition will be determined as per their knowledge on subject matter, use of language, handwriting, their persuasiveness and the essay structure. The result would be announced on 16 September 2010 at Nepal Administrative Staff College, Jawalakhel during the closing ceremony of the festival.

    This is an outstanding initiative to raise awareness and creativity among the students, the new generation and the future pillars of Nepal.
